Cat for Mayor: no more rats !
thanks for this news to
Laura Moss of Mother Nature Network
There's a real political animal vying for mayor in the Mexican state of Veracruz, and his pawlicies have the locals talking.
Two young men nominated a cat named Morris as the citizens' candidate for mayor of Xalapa, the state capital.
If the ambitious feline wins the vote on July 7, he pledges to do what virtually all politicians do - not a whole lot. Although he does promise to cover up his messes instead of leaving them for others to clean up.
His campaign slogan, Xalapa without rats, seems to be working too. He currently has more Facebook likes - nearly 100,000 - than the four other mayoral candidates.
On his page, Morris does admit to having some weaknesses, namely quilts, sheets, pillows, couches and clothing in general, but the people of Xalapa have hope that he won't become just another political fat cat if he wins the election.
Morris isn't the first cat to run for political office. Last year, a Virginia Maine Coon vied for the state's open Senate seat, and a cat named Stubbs has served as mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for 15 years.
